چکیده

Title of Thesis: Perceptually Oriented Patch Based Texture Synthesis Patrick Gillespie, Master of Science, 2006 Thesis Advisor: Dr. Marc Olano Patch-based texture synthesis methods work by taking patches of texture and finding the best way to “stitch” them together so that the seam between the two patches is hardly noticeable. The color difference along a cut between the two patches is usually used as the metric for finding the best seam between the images and traditionally red, green, and blue values are used in determining the color difference. This works well for randomized textures, but can leave artifacts in textures that include definite objects within the patches. We have made use of knowledge of the human visual system to find better seams between patches. We have used perceptually uniform color spaces, edge detection, an alternative graph structure, and the contrast sensitivity function as factors in graph cuts in order to find better seams between images. A user study showed that the new metric significantly improved seam invisibility in images that were spliced together. Perceptually Oriented Patch Based Texture Synthesis by Patrick Gillespie Thesis submitted to the Faculty of the Graduate School of the University of Maryland in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science 2006

Effective Image and Video Error Concealment using RST-Invariant Partial Patch Matching Model and Exemplar-based Inpainting

An effective visual error concealment method has been presented by employing a robust rotation, scale, and translation (RST) invariant partial patch matching model (RSTI-PPMM) and exemplar-based inpainting. While the proposed robust and inherently feature-enhanced texture synthesis approach ensures the generation of excellent and perceptually plausible visual error concealment results, the outl...

A survey of exemplar-based texture synthesis

Exemplar-based texture synthesis is the process of generating, from an input sample, new texture images of arbitrary size and which are perceptually equivalent to the sample. The two main approaches are statisticsbased methods and patch re-arrangement methods. In the first class, a texture is characterized by a statistical signature; then, a random sampling conditioned to this signature produce...

Efros and Freeman Image Quilting Algorithm for Texture Synthesis

Exemplar-based texture synthesis is defined as the process of generating, from an input texture sample, new texture images that are perceptually equivalent to the input. Efros and Freeman’s method is a non-parametric patch-based method which computes an output texture image by quilting together patches taken from the input sample. The main innovation of their work relies in the stitching techni...

Image Enhancement Techniques by Texture Synthesis

It has been observed that stretching of the Image may damage the clarity in many Image Processing applications. Edge and Textures are among the most important features of an image. They have however very different characteristics, suggestions that they should be enhanced using different techniques. For edges, we propose a sobel techniques and finding the edge of all objects .For textures we hav...

Feature-Oriented Artistic Styles Transfer Based on Effective Texture Synthesis

The research of image visual characteristics transfer is motivated from texture synthesis techniques. Generally, the success of these applications is inherently useroriented and highly depends on the subjective personal thoughts also. Therefore, a method with the reasonable estimation values to synthesize a styled texture which would meet the user preference is highly desirable. In this paper, ...
